At the age of 17, David left school and started working in a music store. He also joined a local band, where he gained experience performing in front of live audiences. The film was a commercial and critical success, and David's performance was praised by many. He went on to star in several other films, including 'Stardust,' 'Silver Dream Racer,' and 'The Big Time.'

In the 1980s, David took a break from music and focused on his acting career. He also starred in the Broadway production of 'Mutiny!' and in the film 'Lambs of God,' for which he won a BAFTA award for Best Actor.

In the 1990s, David made a comeback to the music industry with his album 'Cover Shot,' which featured covers of classic songs. The album received positive reviews and was a commercial success.
